Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States1, with myocardial infarctions adding to the severity of the disease. Professors at Worcester Polytechnic Institute have created a new technology known as Microthreads that have the capability to regenerate infarcted heart tissue. The professors needed to know whether it would be worth pursuing the Microthreads further and if the threads could succeed on the cardiac market. Through research and interviews competing technologies, market, regulations and pricing were obtained and analyzed. The author found that if Microthreads could be manufactured and utilized for less than $363, were approved by the FDA and received a HCPCS code, the Microthreads could be successful on the cardiac market.
