In 2007, the Maasai Joy Children’s Centre (MJCC) was established in Tanzania. The goal of our project is the same as the Maasai Joy Children’s Centre’s: to break the cycle of poverty through education. To do this, we aided the MJCC in becoming self-sustainable. We united the benefactors of the school, expanded the school’s social network presence, created a budget for the school, suggested improvement ideas to its owner, and held a fundraising event on campus. While our group may not be able to solve all of the problems that the MJCC faces, we made great steps in improving the school and created a symbiotic relationship between WPI and the MJCC. This project will set a precedent for future groups to follow and continue the progress we have made.
