Bottling Line Splitter Design
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerE&J Gallo Winery in Modesto, CA has numerous high speed bottling lines where it is necessary to split a single line of bottles into two lines. The current lane splitting mechanism uses multiple pneumatic actuators that require costly maintenance and cause excessive line downtime. A prototype mechanism utilizing a unique three-dimensional camoid design and single servo motion control was designed, fabricated using rapid prototyping methods, and tested. Preliminary tests results proved acceptable functionality. Shape optimization and long-term tests for reliability were recommended.
