Many SMEs in Costa Rica are not fully aware of the various international and national environmental certifications. The goal of this project was to provide the CNP+L with tools to assist SMEs in choosing which environmental certification will be most beneficial for their company. We researched applicable certifications and standards, and then conducted interviews with representatives from Costa Rican companies to gain their perspectives on and first-hand experiences with the certifications and standards. Using this information, we gathered the overlapping viewpoints and created a comparison chart to further educate SMEs on the differences among the standards. Finally, we designed a decision tree to aid SMEs in choosing the most appropriate certification based upon their unique situation.
