In the modern computer age of information, the line between consumers and producers has become blurry. For some coding hobbyists and videogame fans there is no line. There are several online communities that develop and share “homebrew” software. Homebrew here refers to software developed for proprietary system by hobbyists. There's no endorsement from the intellectual property holders. Homebrew is an understudied field in academia and heavily misunderstood by the mainstream. This report hopes to shine light on homebrewers and break the misunderstandings. It also strives to evaluate the quality of the user experience and documentation within homebrew communities and recommend improvements in their communications.
