Over two million people worldwide suffer from kidney failure. Many receive treatment via dialysis. However, the gold standard is a kidney transplant. This project develops a VitalRing device for measuring heart rate, body temperature and weight during hemodialysis treatment. The VitalRing device provides an opportunity to continuously record vital signs during the course of hemodialysis treatment. This point-of-care testing device is user-friendly, inexpensive and has a greater chance to improve the quality of kidney dialysis treatment.
