Pressure ulcers pose a pervasive, costly, and painful problem to millions of patients in medical care facilities throughout the United States, including those who are elderly, comatose, wheelchair-bound, or users of prosthetic limbs. The purpose of the system being developed is to prevent pressure ulcer formation by warning patients and medical professionals of impending tissue damage to areas on patients that are most susceptible to pressure ulcers. The system operates wirelessly and is designed to last for at least 7 days in order to effectively prevent pressure ulcers and lessen the burden on caretakers.
