The Puerto Rico Energy Affairs Administration is currently examining energy conservation measures to help alleviate issues associated with high energy costs. The goal of this project was to assess residential energy characteristics to aid in developing a home energy rating system for Puerto Rico. Major objectives included determining current energy use in residences through implementation of online surveys and walk-through observational audits, and developing a list of energy conservation recommendations based on the collected data. Although there were concerns surveying a population representative of the entire island, the results from this project were used to develop recommendations for future studies that should be valuable toward developing a home energy rating system in Puerto Rico.
