The Major Qualifying Project proposed a preliminary design of a steel and concrete cooler foundation at an oil refinery facility in Newfoundland, Canada. It was then evaluated by the project design team according to economic, environmental, constructibility, health and safety, and ethical constraints specific to the facility. Finally, a complete cooler foundation design was developed in STAAD Pro and Hilti PROFIS softwares, and design requirements and appropriate modeling materials for the cooler foundation were determined.
