There is a need for cheap transportation in third world countries. Bicycles are a common mode of transportation, however are not affordable for widespread use. Bamboo bicycles are a cheap alternative, however current manufacturing processes are labor and time intensive. Our goal was to design a cost efficient process for manufacturing bamboo bicycles that can be assembled in less than one hour. Axiomatic Design was used to decompose the problem into functional requirements and design parameters. Our primary focus was to develop a more efficient method for creating the bike joints. The result was a metal brace and gusset structure welded together to transfer the loads a bike is subject to.
