A Device to Measure Tensile Forces in the Deep Fascia of the Human Abdominal Wall
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerVentral hernias have been found to occur in up to twenty-five percent of all midline abdominal laparotomy cases. In order to decrease the incidence of the development of ventral hernias, a relationship between tensile forces applied along the deep fascia and safety of closure needs to be established. To quantify the tensile forces in the deep fascia, a novel pair of hemostats were designed with hinged arms, rakes for attachment, and equipped with strain gages to be used in clinical studies.
