The last decade can be defined by various advances in computer technology and the speed with which computers progress can be very difficult to keep up with, especially for busy professionals. New technologies like GIS and GPS have become readily available however the cost of those tools is relatively high. I have provided a comprehensive description of some technologies associated with computers to help a fire department understand what they do and how much they cost. I have developed a plan that outlines the issues that need to be take into a consideration when a fire department is considering implementing a Geographic Information System. With the information on various technologies and the integration plan, a fire department can determine if GIS can be useful and affordable for the department.
