The purpose of this Interactive Qualifying Project was to investigate the facilities at the Svartsengi Cogeneration Power Plant and the Blue Lagoon. Working from literature, surveys and interviews, the costs of continuously operating these facilities were assessed, as well as the benefits incurred to society as a direct result. The cost-benefit analysis revealed that the power plant and the Blue Lagoon yielded a positive net social benefit to the Suournes community.
