The purpose of this project is to examine the energy efficiency of the manufacturing sector of the United States, with particular focus on the interstate differences in efficiency. Using several measures of output to measure energy efficiency, the study utilizes statistical tests and regression analysis to examine the role of interstate differences in the composition of the manufacturing sector, energy price, energy conservation efforts by the government, and other factors in explaining the energy efficiency patterns across states.
