This IQP focuses on the WPI neighborhood area roadways and intersections and the hazards associated with them. The areas with the greatest collision rate were identified, and as a result, the one needing the most improvement is [the] Highland Street and Lancaster Street intersection. The treatments and alternatives were suggested in order to reduce the collision rate, and the accidents often associated with the hazardous objects surrounding the intersection. The safety and security of pedestrians and vehicle drivers should be greatly improved once the suggestions proposed in this project would take an effect in this area of study. This close evaluation and research of traffic data, traffic volume and frequency and collision history should provide a closer perspective and awareness of the fact that improvement[s] are necessary to be made to assure a [sic] better, safer and more secure roadways and intersections within the WPI area.
