The goal of this project was to assist Snowy River Innovation and Gippsland Climate Change Network in developing a biocluster knowledge platform for Gippsland, Victoria. Our literature review assessed the state of the biochar market both in Australia and other countries around the world. This research, interviews with biochar experts, and a site visit to Gippsland informed our recommendations. We determined that the Grantville facility’s wood and methane waste streams could be processed into energy and biochar for the facility. The biochar was of particular interest as it demonstrated the potential to be sold locally as a soil amendment and for other purposes.
