This project evaluates surface roughness and its influence on impacts between a golf club head and golf ball. A repeatable test was created by dropping golf ball on inclined and roughened stainless steel plates. A confocal microscope was used to measure the topographies which were evaluated with conventional and multi-scale analyses. Impact forces were measured with a piezoelectric dynamometer. The coefficient of friction was calculated from simultaneously recorded normal and tangential forces.
