The objective of this Major Qualifying Project was to reduce waste in PepsiCo’s Stacy’s Pita Chips plant. The rationale for completing this project was to decrease waste through the recommendation of process improvements on Stacy’s Pita Chips bakery production line. The methods used to develop the recommendations were axiomatic design, process experimentation and time value-cash flow analysis. The results of the project demonstrated the potential to reduce the curing process time and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on the production line. The conclusion of the project estimated a significant financial benefit to the sponsor’s revenue through curing time reduction, introduction of new KPIs, improving the current inventory tracking system and implementation of a kaizen board.
