open in viewerWildfires place residential homes at risk in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). This project utilized a Performance-Based Design approach to develop and evaluate an exterior water spray system to improve the survivability of a residential structure from a firebrand exposure during a wildfire. A fire scenario was developed to quantify the wildfire threat and study the impact of firebrands on residential structures. Firebrand transport and accumulation were modeled using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). A water spray system was developed to meet specific goals for the scenario and consists of a tank and pump to supply the system.
