This project presents a smart plug that can measure the power usage of a household device and can turn it on and off, via a scheduler or manually. The plugs all connect to a hub system that sends information to an internet database. This database can then be read by the user to see each outlet’s power usage over a 24-hour period. A predictive algorithm will alert the user if the power deviates from the normal pattern. Testing of the device shows remarkable accuracy when adjusted for noise, and the algorithm functionality works within tolerance, though its behavior can be erratic with small power measurements. Further work would see the design adjusted to eliminate internal noise and improve the measuring accuracy.
