The singularities that exist in electromagnetic fields inside structures with reentrant boundaries are treated using C2-continuous Hermite finite elements combined with analytical regularization of the action integral. We show that the action integral is finite despite the presence of such singularities. Specific calculations are done for an L-shaped waveguide, an L-cavity, and a cubic cavity with an octant removed to form a triple-junction corner. Our approach, which computes the fields through a variational formalism ensures no spurious solutions are produced in 2D calculations; in 3D, the spurious modes can be effectively separated. The calculated fields are highly accurate compared to published results, and the method can be adapted to compute singular fields in any complex structures.
