Performance in rowing is reliant on the precise and consistent execution of strokes. Perfection of the stroke takes focused effort on the timing of the legs, trunk and arms. Training is required not only on the water but on stationary training ergometers. Currently, instrumentation of the rowing stroke timing elements is limited to rating and force. The project’s aim is to create a visualization tool for rowers that breaks down the three movements of the stroke to provide coachable feedback. Visualizing the timing elements allows rowers to learn and correct their strokes in real time. The timing elements were visualized as acceleration over time. The tool proved useful within the team but additional analysis is required to make the product viable.
