The development of technology has effects on the type and volume of mail being shipped, and also on the means through which the United States Postal Service processes mail. The volume increase of E-mail messages, instant messengers, and cell phones have had a negative impact on the revenue of the Postal Service. The increase in parcel shipping in response to online shopping sites such as Ebay.com and Amazon.com, and the growing population of the country has offset the lost revenue. -
