The goal of our project was to provide recommendations for improving the energy efficiency in both public and private facilities and operations in Northern Virginia. Our first objective was to conduct a benchmarking analysis of 41 government buildings within the City of Alexandria. After identifying best benchmarking practices, our group then developed a government building benchmarking and labeling plan designed to help building owners in Northern Virginia jurisdictions benchmark and communicate the energy performance of their facilities. Lastly, we drafted a white paper on key policy and programmatic considerations for implementing a voluntary benchmarking and labeling program for the region’s private commercial building stock.
