The goal of this IQP is to inform the public about stem cell research and its potential to save lives, and provide insight on the underlying ethical and legal issues involved. Informing the public involves education and the clearing of misconceptions. To accomplish this task, the types and sources of various stem cells were researched, as well as their current and potential uses to treat diseases. Religious viewpoints of the world's five major religions were provided as reference for the ethical issues involved, and lastly the legalities of the use of stem cells were researched. Many misconceptions were clarified with evidence to back each point. Based on research performed in this project, it is concluded that stem cells will play a promising role in future medical research and treatment.
