The goal of this project was to create and apply a comprehensive risk assessment process for small water supply systems in Cartago, Costa Rica. This process, known as a water safety plan, was developed for the municipality of Cartago and COMCURE. This goal was accomplished by following the World Health Organization's Water Safety Plans. The resulting water safety plan includes a step by step guide to consolidate data from different sources and use it to identify and assess risks. The plan also calls for a survey of consumers in order to gauge satisfaction with the system and prioritize improvements. The team then assessed a Cartago water system using this plan. The project concluded with the delivery of the water safety plan and recommendations for the assessed system to the sponsors.
