COSTARICA / Costa Rica
The goal of this study was to investigate the potential of plantation pochote as a source of lumber in the local supply market of Samara, Costa Rica. The team conducted initial interviews and surveys to collect information about both the characteristics of and sentiments towards the wood. Samples of the wood were then provided to a select carpenter for further results, which would indicate if exposure to the wood improved his opinion. Through the analysis of data collected, the team found that although it is not a "luxury" wood, plantation pochote does have many applications. We estimate there to be an increased demand for it in the future due to external market pressures.
