The proposed Blackstone Canal Project aims to revive the culture and economy throughout downtown Worcester through the creation of a reconstructed canal. This report explores the potential of integrating ecological goals into the current plan by researching previous projects that have attempted both ecological and economic goals. A group of previous projects was narrowed down using certain criteria to determine their applicability to Worcester, and five aspects of each selected project were researched further: economic goals, ecological goals, funding, public involvement, and the outcome of the project. Information collected from the case studies was then examined in terms of its applicability to Worcester, and recommendations were given regarding integration of ecological goals. -
