The purpose of this project is to identify the resources available to generate hydrokinetic power in Massachusetts Rivers. Also, the project analyzes the impacts hydrokinetic power installations cause on the environment and society. Existing literature was reviewed to gain an insight into the hydrokinetic resources offered by rivers in Massachusetts. Existing turbine designs, regulations involved in building a facility, typical installations, social impacts, and environmental impacts were considered. Criteria were then employed to select suitable generation sites and 22 sites were selected for further analysis. The total combined energy resource at these sites is estimated to be approximately 32.7 million KWh per year.
