The WPI EMS service began in 1990 as a result of an IQP project, and is proud to be celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. The service has experienced a steady increase in call volume over the years. In response to this increase, an evaluation of the current program was done. Three over-riding issues were identified which were: communication, resources, and personnel. A gap analysis between the current state and the optimal state was also performed. Deficiencies in equipment, space and funding were found when WPI was compared to other collegiate programs. Measures need to be taken to close the gap to a First Responder level of service. Advancement to the Basic Life Support (EMT-B) is strongly encouraged. A detailed financial proposal has been developed. -
