This Interactive Qualifying Project employed computer-based intelligent tutorial system in two Statistics courses, MA2611 and MA2610, for the first time in Worcester Polytechnic Institute. We conducted three randomized experiments to compare the effectiveness of different teaching methods using the online tutoring ASSISTment system. Content was developed to compare the effectiveness of ASSISTment over paper-based tutoring and that of hints over worked examples. The study showed that ASSISTment improved student learning and hints were more effective than worked examples.
