PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis project created a methodology to estimate population and generate population andpopulation density maps within the floodplains of San Juan, Puerto Rico. A survey about floodinsurance, flood awareness, and flood damage mitigation was also conducted. The methodologyuses aerial photographs, Census block data, and FIRM data and demonstrates the application ofArcGIS for map creation and population estimations in other floodplain regions. Analysis of thesurvey data allowed comparison of flooding and flood response in different communities. Thisdata and methodology will be used by La Junta de Planificacion to improve resource allocationand flood damage prevention.
