This project, Impact of Outdoor Cats and Educational Effects on Cat Owners, created a survey to assess the perceived ecological impact of domestic cats by residents of Massachusetts. It found that cat owners were overwhelmingly unaware of the full effects of their pet’s predation habits. Following the survey distribution, an educational program was created and administered to second grade students attending Elm Park Community School. The lesson showed a positive increase in knowledge and attitudes relating to the issue. They were also encouraged to relate what they had learned through an informational brochure that was given upon completion of the lesson.
