This report presents a comprehensive fire fatality study of all preventable residential fire fatalities that occurred within the Metropolitan Fire District of Melbourne, Australia between 2000 and 2010. Older people and people with disabilities were found to have been at a greater risk of fire fatality. Given that the community care sector is in a unique position to assist these vulnerable groups, we aimed to provide simple fire safety solutions for the sector to utilise and potentially incorporate into policy.
