This report, prepared for RenoSam and Danish shredder companies, researched alternative treatments of residue resulting primarily from the shredding of end-of-life vehicles. Through extensive literature research, interviews with Danish shredder companies and landfills, and analyses of environmental and economic factors, the team investigated the implementation of alternative processing methods and recommended several treatment options: co-incineration of shredder waste with municipal solid waste, construction of a joint plant implementing shredder residue processing technology, and exporting of the shredder residue for processing abroad. The recommendations will aid Danish shredder companies in reaching the 2015 EU end-of-life vehicle recycling quota.
