We were invited by Maitland Garden Village to assist in the redevelopment of a community park by working with the Cape Town City Parks Dept. and forming a partnership with a group of community members. We visited local parks to identify layout and equipment options, gathered insight on the park through an informal survey, and hosted a community meeting to draw out and share design ideas. After addressing a safety concern through a park clean-up, the partnership hosted a fun day and planting activity to launch the redevelopment. The hard work of the partnership and City Parks Dept. resulted in a park design, implementation plan, catalogue of park elements, and the formation of a community steering committee who has taken the responsibility of seeing the redevelopment through to completion.
