Increasing communication skills improves the ability of mathematics students to learn in classrooms. This concept has been tested through a series of eight communication lessons at Doherty Memorial High School with two Algebra II grade ten classes, taught by John Wetmiller. From student journals, observations and survey results, we concluded that students benefited from the communication lessons with life skills that they could take with them for use in problem solving in mathematics and other subject areas.
