Past studies on the mobility of researchers have identified factors that are important to scientific researchers when choosing a research institution. Identified factors include reputation of the institution, compensation to a researcher, and setting of the institution. This study aims to identify the relative importance of these factors to alpine researchers through a questionnaire sent to graduate students in this area of study. Finally, using tangible measures for these factors, CRREL, Cemagref, BFW, INSTAAR, Meteo France, NSIDC, and NGI, were all compared in terms of the factors that attract researchers to an institution involved in apline studies.
