open in viewerSouth High Community School in Worcester, MA, is implementing an Information Technology school-within-a-school with the purpose of replicating the small-school learning environment while stimulating interest in technology. The goal of this study was to develop a long-term integration plan to help ease the complicated transition from a large school to a cluster of small schools. In order to generate this plan, it is necessary to determine what students graduating from an IT school should know, what hardware and software is necessary for the success of an IT school, and also what the teachers will need to know in order to be effective members of the IT school. Surveys were conducted to gather quantitative data on the teachers' proficiencies in technology, interviews with the teachers to gather additional qualitative details and archival research to find existing IT models in an environment similar to South High. This information led to an effective long-term implementation plan including recommendations for resources, course offerings, and teacher training.
