Abstract

The beaver population has increased in Massachusetts and so have human-beaver conflicts. Prior to 1996, fur-bearing animals were trapped; however, in 1996 a law was passed that restricted trapping. Therefore a new method needed to be implemented in order to alleviate the conflicts between humans and beavers. The choices were to reinstate regulated trapping, use remediation devices or revert to biological means to control the reproduction of beaver. We found that the use of remediation devices was the best method.
