Abstract

The focus of this project is to develop a curriculum for the spring semester of a grade 12 pre-engineering program at Doherty High School (DHS) in Worcester, MA. To help address the ten-year decline in high school students interested in engineering, we set up a capstone experience for seniors by placing them in engineering-related college courses and internships. Suggestions for a preparation period that will provide students with the background needed to successfully complete the internship or college course were developed. We worked with high school and college faculty and with local engineering organizations to design our program, which we believe will offer both seniors and younger students first hand experience to entice them to continue study in engineering.
