DNA fingerprinting.
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThe goal of this IQP project is to provide facts about DNA fingerprints, DNA forensics, DNA in the courtroom, and DNA databases, as an example of documenting the effects of a controversial technology on society. Although DNA databases have been used to solve thousands of crimes, ethical controversies remain regarding privacy rights violations. We conclude that mandating the destruction of the DNA sample after obtaining information on the 13 core forensic loci, that provide no medical information, negates most of the public's objection to database expansion.
