The goal of this project was to determine the need and direction of a future mountain bike safety study by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). From research on bicycle studies, injury databases, and interviews with industry experts and mountain bike users it was determined that the current federal regulations are not adequate. The CPSC should conduct a study addressing mountain bike usage and accidents, create a bicycle classification system, and increase participation in the ASTM bicycle standards subcommittee F08.10.
