The London borough of Merton is faced with a traffic problem. Increased congestion on the roads, due in part to the growing use of cars on school runs, has resulted in dangerous situations for children walking and cycling to school. This project utilized data from observations, surveys, interviews, and focus groups to determine the most beneficial ways of reducing traffic and increasing safety around the six schools in this study. Each school received proposals to incorporate education programs, infrastructure improvements, and travel initiatives into their distinct school travel plans.
