The objectives of this IQP were to analyze quality and resource use in Ph.D. granting Mechanical Engineering departments across the US, and to benchmark WPI. I compiled data on 141 schools and their ME Departments, then analyzed the data using scattergraphs to show the position of WPI in relation to other schools. The data shows that there are several areas in which WPI needs to improve, including library size, ME department Ph.D. enrollment and number of ME Department faculty.

  • This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review.
