The purpose of this project is to investigate the development and safety issues of airbags. The literature review will show the present status of airbags. It will also bring forth the advantages and disadvantages of airbags. The paper has been written from a neutral position, presenting all issues from both sides of the airbag debate. At the end of the paper, the writers' thoughts are given. Written surveys, interviews and case studies were done for comparison to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The surveys also serve as a media to display the many misconceptions that are held by the general public about airbags. A more educated conclusion about the safety of airbags will be able to be made after reading this report.
