Nipmuc Nation, The New England Native American Institute
This IQP report is a starting off point to a larger project, called Project Mishoon, involving many parties dealing with the retrieval of a dugout canoe, also known as a mishoon, and the many issues involved, such as excavating, conserving, maintaining, and displaying it. At the completion of this report on August 28, 2001, the canoe has not yet been recovered. This paper, along with the research of many other people, is helping to speed the recovery process of a very important part of local America Indian cultural history by providing relevant technical and cost data for several possible recovery scenarios.
