Abstract
This paper presents the results of a study conducted in 2000 by the Mechanics Division of ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education) on the role of and the curricular/technological changes in basic engineering mechanics courses over the past 35 years. The undergraduate courses reviewed were statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, and vibrations, and data were obtained only from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering programs. The results of the current study are compared to the findings of previous reviews conducted in 1975 and 1985, and significant trends and changes are discussed.
