This project, conducted on site in Istanbul and Kocaeli, Turkey, gathered data on the persistence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in surviving victims and rescue workers of 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake. Through literature review, qualitative and focus group interviews, the team detected continuing symptoms and proposed 17 immediate and long-term solutions including prompt and continuing psychological counseling, greater educational publicity through media competitions and film/TV treatments, accelerated housing re-construction, identification of contractors on building , and technological innovations for search and rescue.
