This project, sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency New England Office, refined and tested a visual assessment tool for the evaluation of environmental lead in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. The team surveyed 2,300 homes for the likely presence of lead. A database of the team's result was compared to a database of known lead contaminated properties to test the predictive value of the visual assessment tool. Utilizing GIS mapping technology, the team was able to recommend strategies for achieving the EPA goal of lead safe homes in Dorchester by the 2006 regional deadline.
